what's the best relational database tool for app development?

Hey everyone, we're working on an app project and trying to figure out which relational database tool would be the best fit. Reliability, performance, and smooth integration with modern development workflows are key priorities.

I came across a few top-rated options in the relational databases category on G2 and wanted to hear from folks who’ve used these for app development:

  • Amazon RDS: Fully managed and supports engines like MySQL, PostgreSQL, and SQL Server. Popular for apps hosted on AWS.
  • Amazon Aurora: High-performance and cloud-native. Works with MySQL and PostgreSQL and includes a serverless option that could help with scaling apps smoothly.
  • Microsoft SQL Server: Longstanding enterprise choice with strong transaction support. Curious if others have found it efficient for modern app builds.
  • Google Cloud SQL: Fully managed MySQL and PostgreSQL databases on GCP. A clean fit for apps already using Firebase or other Google tools.
  • Oracle Database: Known for power and stability. I’m wondering how it stacks up for startups or smaller app teams using the Oracle Cloud offering.

If you’ve built or scaled an app using any of these, which did you go with and why? What worked well and what would you do differently?

Appreciate any tips or lessons learned.

Highly depends which ecosystem you're working with, personally I love the Amazon solutions
