1. Limited Customization
What’s the issue? Gusto offers a streamlined experience, but that can mean fewer options for customizing workflows, reports, or permissions.
Who it affects most: Companies with complex or unique HR/payroll needs.
2. Higher Cost at Scale
What’s the issue? Gusto is affordable for small teams, but as headcount grows, the per-employee, per-month pricing can add up quickly.
Who it affects most: Growing businesses or large teams looking for cost-efficient scalability.
3. Benefits Support Isn’t Nationwide
What’s the issue? Gusto’s health benefits are not available in every U.S. state (though this has improved over time).
Who it affects most: Teams with employees across multiple or less populous states.
4. Limited International Support
What’s the issue? Gusto is mainly U.S.-focused. It doesn’t handle international payroll well (or at all).
Who it affects most: Remote/distributed teams with global employees or contractors.
5. Customer Support Can Be Slow During Peak Times
What’s the issue? Although support is generally solid, some users report slow responses during tax season or onboarding new employees.
Who it affects most: New users or teams needing urgent assistance.
6. Limited Advanced HR Features
What’s the issue? While Gusto covers the basics well, it may lack some advanced HR tools like deep analytics, advanced performance reviews, or complex time tracking.
Who it affects most: Medium-sized or enterprise teams needing robust HRIS functionality. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

I really like using Gusto because the website is super easy to navigate and makes everything related to payroll and HR feel simple—even if you’re not super experienced. The dashboard is clean and user-friendly, and I like how everything is clearly labeled so you’re not guessing where to click next. One of my favorite things about Gusto is how fast and smooth it is to set up direct deposit or view pay stubs. I also appreciate that it keeps everything in one place—whether it’s tax forms, benefits, or time tracking. It’s helpful and saves a lot of time.Overall, Gusto makes the more stressful parts of work (like paperwork and payroll stuff) feel way more manageable. I’d definitely recommend it to anyone looking for an organized and reliable HR platform. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
One thing I don’t like about Gusto is that sometimes certain pages or features take a while to load, especially when trying to view older documents or detailed tax info. It’s not a huge issue, but it can slow you down when you’re in a rush. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I use Gusto and another payroll service for a different job. Gusto is by far superior! It is very clear and straight forward from the user stand point. Organization of the menu items make it super easy to find what you need. Adjusting hours is simple as well. I like that I can very easily see my hours by the week and daily break down. When getting started, the set up of all your information was way easier than any other payroll service I have used. I absolutely recommend Gusto to anyone looking for simple reliable payroll servicing! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
What's least helpful to me , is honestly just because I don't need it for my particular job. I can see how the features of benefits or performance would be helpful though. It's just not something my company utilizes. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

We've been using Gusto for over a year now, and it's truly transformed the way we handle payroll, time off, and employee benefits. What used to be a headache of spreadsheets and back-and-forth emails is now completely streamlined and user-friendly.
One of my favorite features is how easy it is to review paychecks. Everything is clearly laid out—hours, deductions, benefits contributions, taxes—and it’s available any time. No confusion, no surprises, and you can even see upcoming pay periods at a glance.
Requesting time off is also seamless. Whether it’s vacation, sick leave, or a personal day, it only takes a couple clicks to submit a request. The built-in calendar makes it super easy to track remaining PTO, see company holidays, and know who else is off at the same time.
The benefits dashboard is another standout. Employees can view everything in one place—health insurance plans, 401(k), dental, vision—you name it. The clarity and transparency make a big difference, especially during open enrollment season. It’s empowering for employees to understand their coverage and costs without having to chase down HR.
Overall, Gusto has made our internal processes more efficient and our team happier. It’s one of those tools that you don’t realize how badly you needed until you start using it. Highly recommend for any company that wants to simplify admin and give their team a better employee experience. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I have yet to encounter a feature of Gusto I don't like. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

I love that Gusto is easy to use and provides notifications when I'm getting paid, especially since they're fun and celebratory. I also enjoy that it tells me how much time I have left for my lunch breaks and how much time I've accumulated for PTO, making it easy for me to know exactly what's going on. It's also incredibly easy to submit expense forms, which is super helpful to have in one place. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I wish there was a higher APY for their savings' account. Also, it would be great if there were other options, such as a CD or bonds investment option. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
My agency manually handled payroll for the past nine years before switching to Gusto last year. I have to say, we should have made the switch sooner! Gusto has made it incredibly easy and convenient to access my pay stubs, tax information, and benefits. Gusto even consolidated my last year's pay and tax information despite not using it during that timeframe. I also love that it is personalized to my company's work calendar. While I have been a user, I have experienced how Gusto's versatility. It is more than a payroll app. It also offers its users many resources and tips for small businesses, supports employees' HR needs, and streamlines managerial duties and tasks. Last, but certainly not least, I absolutely love and appreciate the animated piggy that changes every season! The animation is a fun, personal touch that sets it apart from a regular, boring work application. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Although Gusto is a wonderful application, there is still room for improvement to further optimize the overall experience. I have noticed that the app will experience occasional issues with site loading and calibration. Additionally, the GPS/location detection feature is not always accurate. When it misplaces my location, it causes issues with my clock-in, especially since my employer requires a comment when I am not at the office. This makes it time-consuming to explain the error each time it happens. Additionally, the way Gusto calculates my hours and displays my total hours is confusing. Regular hours, overtime hours, and holiday hours are calculated and displayed separately, but there is no running total during my shift that I am able to view while on my shift. It only adds my hours at the end of my shift, which makes it harder to monitor and plan my hours. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What I appreciate most about Gusto is how effortless it makes getting paid. As a contractor, it’s rare to find a platform that’s this reliable, user-friendly, and transparent. I don’t have to worry about delays, paperwork, or chasing down payments—everything just works. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
While my overall experience with Gusto has been very positive, there are a couple of areas that could be improved. As a contractor, I don’t have access to some of the employee-focused features (like benefits tracking or time-off management), which can sometimes make the platform feel a bit limited.
Also, while payments are generally on time, I’ve noticed there isn’t much visibility into processing delays if they ever occur. A bit more real-time communication or insight into that side of things would be helpful.
Lastly, the dashboard is very streamlined—which is great—but it would be nice to have more customization options or tools tailored specifically for freelancers and independent contractors. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

As a user, what I love most about Gusto is how incredibly easy and intuitive it is to use. Running payroll takes just a few clicks, and everything from tax filings to direct deposits is handled automatically. I also really appreciate the transparency—employees get clear pay stubs and access to their own dashboard, which reduces questions and back-and-forth. It saves me time, reduces stress, and gives me peace of mind knowing everything is done correctly and on time. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I can't think of much except I wish that if I were to have money deposited to savings, I could choose which checks vs. it being all checks Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I love that Gusto lets me get paid easily and quickly with no wait. It tracks my paychecks for me and sends them right to my checking account. This way I don't have to wait, or deal with AI bots, or contact my work place 3 times a week asking about paychecks. Also whenever I needed help Gusto Customer Support made it easy to get the RARE problems fixed. I use Gusto every day and plan to use it for any other jobs I get in the past. (I hope my next Jobs use Gusto too). Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The only downside I have is that the Gusto mobile app sometimes crashes on chrome, but the website is amazing. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Gusto has one of the simplest time tracking feature I have ever used. The ability to clock in just on the homepage within seconds makes the overall experience smooth and snappy. In addition, the organization of the calendar makes it easy for me to tell how long I worked for each pay week. Overall, the ease of implementation is probably the reason why I choose Gusto over other sites. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
The only thing I dislike about Gusto is likely a personal gripe more than anything. The "home" tab only has tasks and check in functionality, which is a little lackluster. It would be better if there are more statistics and numbers on the front screen, so I could easily do some mental calculations before I have to navigate to other tabs. However, this is just a minor issue. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
